It would become the first music ensemble to be established at Grambling. The choir gained the most notoriety under the direction of Composer / Conductor Robert E. Williams, who served as director of the choir from 1960 -1986. Other more recent directors who have continued the GSU choir legacy includes McCoy Ransom Jr. (1986), Terry Alexander (1988), Cheryl Clansy (1989-1998), Patricia Britton (1998-2001), Marcus J. Rhodes (2001-2009), and the present choral conductor Edryn J. Coleman has conducted since 2009.
